Just ahead of the Anzac Round, Wests Tigers took time out to make the short trip from training at Concord Oval to visit the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway in the grounds of Concord Hospital. In the company of Charlie Lynn, they revisited the Kokoda story and touched on the four Kokoda pillars: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.
It was an opportunity for Wests Tigers Prop, Tim Grant, to meet up again with his trek leader, Charlie Lynn. Tim, CEO Justin Pascoe and Coach Ivan Cleary have all trekked with Charlie who has led an incredible 85 treks across Kokoda Trail.
Concord Hospital commemorates its 75th anniversary this year and has a strong link to the Kokoda story as many serviceman were repatriated from New Guinea to Concord Hospital.
Round 8 of the 2017 NRL Telstra Premiership is Anzac Round, where the game pays tribute to those servicemen and women who have played their part in safeguarding Australia and New Zealand.
Network Kokoda is pleased that this year there is focus on the anniversary of the Kokoda campaign, with 2017 marking 75 years since the battle in Papua New Guinea, where 600 soldiers gave their lives and over 1,600 were wounded.
